Teeth Whitening Review

H&M Sweater // LISI LERCH Earrings

Hello! Today I have a very exciting post to share with you all! I have teamed up with Smile Brilliant to share their awesome teeth whitening kit with you, and I am pretty pumped! Keep reading, because at the end of this post I will tell y’all how you can win a $149 credit to use at Smile Brilliant, and also get 10% off their products!

If you know me well, you know that I am obsessed with having white teeth. Telling me that my teeth are white is one of the biggest compliments you can give me. You may be thinking, “But Hayley, what if someone tells you how kindhearted and special you are, or tells you that you are going to go far in life?” Those compliments are great…but tell me I have white teeth too lol.

When I looked up Smile Brilliant, I was so excited to try their whitening system! I have never had the chance to try any sort of high end teeth whitening system (It’s always been something on my bucket list. No, I am not kidding. My actual bucket list.), so I jumped at the chance to try Smile Brilliant.

So how does it work? Smile Brilliant creates customized whitening trays for your whitening and desensitizing gel that fit perfectly to your teeth. To create these trays, they send you two impression trays and a base and catalyst paste that you mix together in order to make a molding paste that you use to create your trays. Once you’ve finished making your molds, you send them back to Smile Brilliant, and in return they send you back your custom-fitted trays that you use to whiten your teeth! From there you are ready to whiten!

The actual whitening can be kind of a long process if you want it to be really effective, just in terms of waiting, because you leave the whitening gel in from 45 minutes to three hours. I wanted to go all-in with my pearly whites, so I always used the whitening system at night for a couple of hours before I went to bed, because you are supposed to wait to eat and drink for a few hours once you are finished whitening too!

One of my favorite things about Smile Brilliant though, and one of the things that I think really sets them apart from other whitening brands, was the desensitizing gel that they give you to put on after the whitening gel. It really is a life saver. I have used white strips many many times in the past, and I have oftentimes experienced pretty rough tooth sensitivity after I’ve finished using them. But I can actually feel the desensitizing gel soothing my teeth once I put it on, and my teeth don’t hurt the next day when I drink cold water or anything like that like they do with regular white strips!

Because I loved using Smile Brilliant so much, I am teaming up with them to do a giveaway!!! The giveaway is for a $149 credit, and all you have to do is submit your name and email to enter. It is also opened to USA, UKA, Canada, and Australia. The winner will be selected and contacted via email 2 weeks from today!

My ALL-TIME Favorite Beauty Products

Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation

This is a new find for me. I have never been a liquid foundation person. I had been an avid user of Bare Minerals powder-based foundation since the 8th grade…so the past EIGHT years…until I found this foundation. I was really wanting a more high coverage foundation that would last longer throughout the day, because I tend to have more oily skin. I had heard so many good things about the Double Wear foundation, and after reading all of the rave reviews, I finally got myself a bottle this past Christmas. It is AMAZING. I won’t ever be able to go back. It makes your skin look so good and actually lasts all day. It’s definitely a new holy grail product for me.

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow

I started using these eyeshadows a few months ago and I am obsessed with them. I use the colors ‘Golden Goddess’ and ‘Rose Gold Retro’ and I wear them everyday. They are really sparkly so if you prefer a more toned-down makeup look during the day, I would just set these aside for your night-out makeup. But I love sparkle so I have no problem wearing mine during the day. The pay-off is really beautiful and there is no fall-out at all.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner

If you read my All About My Hair blog post, you already know that I love this shampoo and conditioner. My mom and I have been using this stuff for the past few years. It makes your hair feel so good and healthy. I love how thick the shampoo is too. My mom and I get the big bottles to last us a few months, which is what I’ve linked above. That’s why they’re so pricey.

T3 Convertible Base & Whirl Trio Interchangeable Wand Set

This is another product that you’ve seen if you’ve read my hair post. I heard about this curling iron because a TON of bloggers that I follow use it. It is very pricey, but I got it as a birthday gift last year and I love it. If you curl your hair as much as I do (all the time), I highly suggest investing in this product. One suggestion I do have though, is to only purchase one barrel that you think you’d like to attach to the base. I got the set of three attachments and I only use one of them. It’s sort of a waste to spend the extra money on all three (even though they call it a “deal”) because you could spend less money on just one. I only use the 1″ straight barrel and the other two just sit in my drawer.

Milani Baked Brush in ‘Dolce Pink’

I love blush! I feel like it just brightens up my face and my makeup isn’t complete until I have it on. But if I’m being honest, I’m not very picky when it comes to my blushes. All I ask is that it be pink and have a little bit of shimmer. I have tried higher-end, cult classic blushes like Nars ‘Orgasm,’ and although I liked it, it didn’t exactly blow me out of the water, especially considering its cost. But I just grabbed this blush randomly one day at CVS and I think it’s really great. It lasts all day and has good color pay-off and beautiful shimmer. Plus it’s eight bucks, so…..what more do I need to say?

Vanillamint Supreme 2X Lipgloss

This might seem kind of random since it’s just one of those random lip glosses that Bath & Body Works carries, but I honestly love this stuff. I love the fact that all of the flavors are mint flavored, because I really like the tingly feeling of the mint on my lips. My favorite flavor is the Cinnamint one, but I couldn’t find it on their website. I feel like the cinnamon in it sort of plumps your lips. To be honest I feel like the plumping factor that the mint in these lip glosses gives you makes them a solid dupe for the Dior Lip Maximizer. My mom has the Dior and I tried it one day, and I didn’t really notice a difference between it and the mint gloss from Bath & Body Works in terms of their plumping factor.

NYX Lip Pencil in ‘Mauve’

I used to never wear lipstick or lip pencils, I would just wear a gloss. But over the summer I started wearing this lip pencil under my gloss and I can’t go back. Now I feel like I look dead when I don’t have this lip pencil on. All I do is line my lips with it and then fill them in just a little bit. It’s just a great, simple lip pencil, and it’s only $3.99.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

This is another product that I have been using since literally the 8th grade!! I had really oily skin in middle school and I would always get so bummed because my eyeshadows would crease on my eyelids by the middle of the day. I watched a bunch of Youtube makeup videos and found this product and have been using it ever since. Your eyeshadow won’t go anywhere. It is spectacular. Plus a little goes a long way, so a tube lasts you like a year. I’m sure a lot of people are thinking, “Ew, gross it’s expired!” but I don’t care lol.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer

I’ve been using this bronzer since the 9th grade. It is the perfect shade for fair skin, and isn’t harsh or orange at all. Plus it is matte so that’s nice. Simply put, it’s just a great, easy bronzer! No fuss!

honorable mention

The only reason these products are not included in the list is because I could not find them online! But two products that I LOVE are the Almay Intense i-color liquid eyeliner and pencil eyeliner for blue eyes in the shade ‘Brown Topaz.’ I rave about these eyeliners. I have been using them since…no joke…the SEVENTH GRADE!!! So ten freaking years. If these eyeliners ever got discontinued I don’t know what I would do. The fact that I couldn’t find them online scares me a little bit. I may have to got Ulta tomorrow and buy every single one that I can find. The color is the perfect shade of brown, not too dark and not too light. It compliments blue eyes perfectly and is such a flattering color. I think they have colors for brown, hazel, and green eyes too. I can’t speak for those colors since I have blue eyes, but I’m sure they are wonderful too. Seriously next time you are at Ulta or a drug store, pick up these eyeliners…just make sure you leave some for me. They are holy grail products for me, for sure!

All About My Hair

Hello friends! So this is a pretty big post, because I’ve got some pretty big hair. Lol not exactly, but it’s a big post because my hair takes a lot of work, but the work almost always pays off. My hair is something I get a lot of comments and questions about it, whether it’s from you fine readers, my friends, or strangers!

My hair is one of my favorite features…on a good day. When it’s having a bad day, I pretty much hate my hair, but I guess we all feel like that when we have bad hair days. The fact is, a lot of my confidence stems from my hair and if it’s participating or not. If my hair turns into flat frizz from the awful summer humidity in Charleston, or if I didn’t feel like styling my hair and have to put it up in a frizzy curly ponytail, I’m pretty much bummed about it for the rest of the day. It doesn’t matter if I’m wearing the most amazing outfit ever, or my makeup looks flawless. If my hair looks bad, I feel bad. Yes, I know I am quite the Negative Nancy.

But, I thought it would be fun to share my hair background and routine, just because I get so many comments and questions about it. If I miss anything or you have any other questions, just leave a comment below!

Hair Background

Excuse the language, but when people ask what my natural hair is like, I like to joke that it’s “naturally sh***y.” I say this because my natural hair is just plain whacky. Let me explain: If I wash my hair and put some mousse in it while it’s wet, the bottom layer of my hair ends up being sort of wavy/frizzy/straight, the middle layer sort of wavy/frizzy/curly, and then the top layer sort of wavy/frizzy/straight. …Did I mention that it’s frizzy?… Basically, my natural hair is just really inconsistent. Sometimes I can wear it natural (with product) and it will look awesome, but 80% of the time it just looks bad when it’s natural. Now my natural hair without any product in it, just completely air-dried, is just awful. There’s no leaving my house with just my 100% natural hair in tow. I’ve never left my house with it like that, and I never will. It just looks frizzy and terrible. You may think I’m over-exaggerating, but just trust me on this.

The key to my hair is definitely in how I get it cut. I have to have some sort of side bang and layers, otherwise my hair doesn’t flatter my round face or have as much volume. I just ask my stylist for lots of layers, side bangs, and face framing pieces. I don’t switch up my layers and bangs very often because I just think it’s the most flattering cut for me. I’ve had pretty much the same style of hair in terms of layers since high school, and I’ve always kept it that way because it works for me.  I also get my hair highlighted. I get lighter blond highlights in front to frame my face, and honey-blonde highlights throughout the rest of my hair to give it some dimension and show off my curls better.

Let me just walk you through a quick pros and cons list of my hair:

Cons: it requires a lot of work for it to look good…very thick so it takes a long time to style…easily impacted by humidity…I can’t switch up my part like some people (I’ve tried doing a middle part, and it was just okay)…it takes forever to grow

Pros: it holds style pretty well (when it’s not humid!!)…very thick so it has natural volume…when it’s having a good day, it looks really goodlol not to sound like a total tool

Styling Process

So, I know a lot of people probably would have made some sort of video tutorial about how to style their hair, but to be honest, I have no idea how to edit video, so I’m just going to give you a step-by-step process of what I do. If you find it boring and don’t want to read it, I don’t blame you, but for those of you who are curious, I hope this is helpful!

I always shampoo and condition my hair with this shampoo and this conditioner. I’ve been using it for about a year and a half and I can’t use anything else because I’m high maintenance. It just makes your hair feel so good and healthy! I always shampoo my hair first, then I put the conditioner on and let it soak into my hair for the rest of my shower, so about ten minutes or so. I probably wash my hair three times a week on average, depending on how often I plan on curling my hair that week. To me, my hair always looks best the day it’s washed.

When my hair is still wet, I spray this heat protectant on my ends, brush it through using this wet brush, and then I wait about 10-15 minutes before I blow dry it. I loathe blow drying my hair. It is the worst. But it’s just something I have to do. I have no method for blow-drying my hair, other than just point-and-shoot. I also use a blow dryer from Target that I’ve had since high school, so nothing special here. When I’m finished blow drying, my hair looks frizzy and straight. Just another reason why I didn’t do any sort of video tutorial…nobody wants to see that. I plan on investing in a really nice blow dryer one day, like the Dry Bar or T3 one, just because I’ve heard that they are life changers when it comes to blow drying hair.

Then I curl my hair. I always use the 1-inch straight barrel of the T3. This takes me about 30 minutes total. I brush and part my hair, then section it off into three sections using these clips, one big section in the back of my head, and then one section on each side. From there I start with the bottom half of the back chunk of hair, and curl it piece by piece, then I do the top half after that. And I do the same thing with the side chunks as well, always curling away from my face (this is important). I do this repeatedly until I get to my bangs. My bangs are little more complicated. First I take my bangs and I straighten them with a cheap-o straightening iron like this one, that I’ve had since high school, because they tend to get frizzy, so straightening them gets rid of that frizz so they are easier to curl. Then I curl them aways from my face using a 1-inch curling iron with a clamp like this (I just use another random curling iron that I’ve had for years). I have to use a curling iron with a clamp for my bangs because they are too short to wrap around the barrel of my T3! The bangs part is super tedious, I know, but it’s just what I have to do to style my bangs!

From there, I just tousle it, and re-curl any pieces that might have fallen flat or need a little extra help. Then I spray hairspray. To do this I lean my head back a bit, and then spray the hairspray all over. I do this because it gives my hair a little more volume! I used to use this hairspray, and it is super great if you want a lot of hold, but I felt that it made my hair feel dirtier the next day which bugged me. If you are looking for strong hold though, I highly recommend it. I now use this hairspray. It definitely is not anti-humidity as it claims to be, as my hair is still easily affected by humidity even when I wear it, but it does have really good hold, and doesn’t make my hair feel as dirty the next day as the Kenra hairspray does. (By the way, if anyone knows of any amazing anti-humidity products that work, PLEASE let me know. It’s definitely the biggest problem I have with my hair during the warm months and it drives me crazy!)

Well, I hope this was helpful! At some point in the future, I will do a video tutorial! If I left anything out or you have any other questions just leave a comment and let me know!
