Hello, folks! It’s been forever since I’ve actually come on here with a post like this! Though I must admit, the break was very nice. I love my blog, but there are aspects of it that can be very overwhelming. But I am happy to be back, and already have my wheels turning for new content in the coming months. Fall is right around the corner, and it is my absolute favorite season to dress for, and the time of year when I feel most inspired, and honestly just more happy all around. I love my cute yellow top and white jeans in this post, but just thinking about wearing sweaters, boots, jackets, and cute hats gets me so giddy and excited!!!

What have you all been up to?? I can’t believe we are already on the last leg of summer. It feels like only yesterday that I was celebrating with all of you that school was over with for the year, and now I only have a month left before I’m back there again. Ugh, gross. But at least it’s my senior year! Woohoo!!!

August is going to be another very busy month for me, so I can’t promise that things with the blog are going to pick up their normal pace quite yet. I am going to Texas with my family and Juan to visit some of our family (fun fact, I was born in Texas), and then school also starts in August, so it is going to be another busy month where my schedule is going to be all out of whack. But I promise that after August, things will be in full swing! I hope you all have a great week ahead of you!!!

One Year Blogiversary!

BB Dakota Dress (ON SALE FOR UNDER $50 here, and here!!!) // Tuckernuck Earrings // Marc Fisher Wedges

Today is a big day, everyone! Well, at least for me it is. Today marks one year since I started Hayley Over Heels. I can’t believe it has been a whole year! I am still a total newbie in this community, and to be honest, I have no idea what I am doing half the time. I feel like I am constantly trying to improve with every post, and every post is an effort to help this site reach its full potential. As I sit down to write this, I really want to dive into why I started this blog, what my feelings have been towards it throughout this past year, but most importantly, thank all of you who have supported me in this endeavor, whether it’s been from the beginning, or just this morning! Without you, this blog would just be me talking to myself, and I already do that enough when I watch The Bachelor and yell at my television like I’m watching a football game.

This blog was something that I had in the back of my mind since my first year out of high school. I had always thought it would be something fun to do after college, and I never put much thought into it other than that. But as the years passed, the idea of the blog began to turn into something that I needed to do, as opposed to just an afterthought.

My time in Charleston has not always been the easiest. From experiencing extreme homesickness and roommate problems in the beginning, to only getting to see my boyfriend every few weeks or so, and to just not always feeling fulfilled here in general, I’ve had my share of ups and downs. These emotions played a huge role in my decision to finally start the blog. During my time in Charleston, I have always had a retail job. When you work in retail, you generally have to wear the clothes you are selling to work. I am a pretty boring person, so most of my time in college has consisted of work and going to class. So before I started the blog, pretty much all of my outfits consisted of work clothes and then the leggings and t-shirts that I would wear to class. I was no longer putting in the effort and thought into my outfits that I used to before college, which was always something that I enjoyed and prided myself on. Not being able to express myself through my style like I used to, on top of the feelings of homesickness and sadness I was feeling in Charleston, really started to take a toll on me. I felt like there was a small hole in my life that needed to be filled.

I decided to start this blog so that I could have the creative outlet that I was feeling very desperate for. I wanted a hobby that I could fully enjoy and to give me that sense of fulfillment that I felt like I was missing. This blog has made me so happy the past year. Don’t go me wrong, it is not always a walk in the park. When I have a day off, most of the time the last thing I want to do is put on full hair and makeup just to go stand in the heat or cold to take blog photos. There have been times of sadness and stress when a post that I was really excited about and worked really hard on, doesn’t get as many views as I thought it would. It can also be expensive to purchase new clothes for the new content that I like to put out at least 2-3 times a week. That’s just not always an option for me, as I work a part-time job while going to school, and pay my own bills. That’s why half of the things I wear on the blog are old, or borrowed from my mom’s closet (thanks mom!). It’s difficult to make your life, your closet, your hair, or your makeup, appear perfect when it just…isn’t. But that’s totally okay, and at the end of the day, I think a more realistic portrayal is best, and I’ve had to learn to work with I’ve got and be grateful for what I do have!

I have very big dreams for Hayley Over Heels. Although it is just a hobby for me right now, I take it very seriously, and put as much work into it as time and money allow. I hope that one day this blog can become a full-time job for me, and I will continue to work hard to reach that goal! But that goal would be impossible if it wasn’t for all of you.

Thank you so much to all of you who take the time out of your day to read my blog! Even if you don’t read what I write, and just look at the pictures, any visit to my site is appreciated. I am so grateful for any contribution you make to my viewership. Whether you follow me Instagram, like my Facebook, subscribe to emails, or are just reading for the first time today, your support means the world to me, and honestly makes me want to tear up. But I will try to spare you my sappy emotions hehe. I hope that you continue to support me, and I promise to always work my hardest to provide you with posts that are fresh and funny, and to always stay true to myself. I know you all want as much genuine Hayley-filled content as possible. Gotta satisfy the masses 😉

Thank you so much!

Hayley

The Cutest Drinkware from Shopbop!!!

Drinkware Collage

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven

Happy weekend, everyone! This is a very spur of the moment, unplanned post, but a couple of days ago I was perusing the Shopbop sale, and just happened to stumble upon their drinkware. Let me just say, that I about died at how cute everything was. I mean, I know it’s just some cups and mugs, but oh my goodness, everything was just so adorable. Do you see #7 on the collage?? That is a disco ball drink bucket. A DISCO BALL!! Ugh, so stinkin’ cute. There were so many that I loved, that I just had to make a collage of my favorites to share with y’all. If you are looking for cute little gift ideas too, these are perfect! Which one is your favorite? I hope you guys are having a great weekend!

Fall-ing For Light Pink

Lilly Pulitzer Top in ‘Paradise Pink’ • J. Crew White JeansUGG Suede Boots (sold out, so similar here, and here) • ILYMIX Pink Mirror Sunglasses (get 20% off with code HOH20) • Alex and Ani Mermaid Wrap Ring

Happy Eclipse Day, everyone! Especially my fellow Charleston locals! I am so looking forward to clawing my way through the estimated million (!!!) of tourists here to see the eclipse. I mean, what could make a work day any better?? *Read the last two sentences with a tone of off-the-charts sarcasm.*

To help make this day a little easier to swallow, I am posting an adorable transition outfit, plus a little gift for you all (continue reading for more details). I know it’s only August, 90 degrees outside, and feels like you’re swimming in a fish tank every time you step outside, but no, you are not hallucinating when you look at these pictures. I am actually wearing boots. And lined boots, at that. Where do I pick up my trophy? I am beyond ready for fall. Like to infinity and beyond ready for fall. I need the holidays, and most importantly, I need cooler weather. My hair can’t take this humidity anymore. It misses the brisk fall and winter days when it stayed pretty all day, and didn’t lose it’s curl from me walking outside just to check the mail. And finally, I need to wear all of my fall clothes! I miss my boots, my sweaters, and my leggings!! So that’s why I’m bringing you a transition outfit this week. I just can’t wait any longer!

In this look, you get the colors and textures of summer, with the shoes of fall. This top is nice and airy, and doesn’t make you feel too hot. And it’s almost Labor Day, so we have to wear our white jeans while we still can (not that I abide by that rule much to begin with). These boots add a nice touch of the upcoming fall months we have upon us, and you could easily trade out the white jeans in this look for regular blue jeans if you want to carry it later into September.

And like I mentioned above, I have a little gift for you all! An online accessories store called ILYMIX, reached out to me and gave me a 20% off discount code to give to you! I ordered a pair of sunglasses from them a few weeks ago, and I was really pleased with what I received in the mail. I’m wearing the sunglasses I ordered in the pictures above! I wasn’t sure what to expect of the quality, just because they have such low prices, but the sunglasses are honestly really sturdy and high quality, and the metal frames aren’t flimsy or feel like they will break like some similar sunglasses I own. So not only are their prices affordable, but they give you a quality product too! The best of both worlds! Of course I ordered the pink pair to perfectly match my top, but they also have pairs that come in neutral colors like gold and silver too! It’s the perfect place to get trendy sunglasses on a budget. ILYMIX also carries really cute beanies and blanket scarves for fall (I love this beaded beanie, and this classic blanket scarf!), so I will definitely be snagging up some of those when it starts to get chilly! Just enter the code HOH20 at checkout to get 20% off your order!

I hope you all enjoyed this look, and are doing something fun for the eclipse! I’ll be at work in the center of it all…please pray for me!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017!

Hello, friends! Today is a day of celebration…a day of rejoicing and happiness. No, it’s not my birthday, but it’s pretty close. It’s the first day of Early Access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I woke up at 5:30 am for this. I can’t wake up at 7 to go to the gym, but I can wake up even earlier to shop? Yeah, that’s an issue I might have to address at some point. Anyways, I am so so so excited because I got some good stuff this year. For me, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the opportunity to buy anything I need for the coming fall, such as a certain pair boots, jacket, coat, etc. It’s a great sale for buying necessities and basics because you get them at a discounted price, but you are still getting something that you will get a lot of use out of for the approaching colder seasons, giving you a little more bang for your buck. Plus, fall is my favorite season, especially when it comes to the clothes, so I am always really excited to shop this sale. Don’t get me wrong, I love the bright colors of spring and summer, but I love the styling that goes into all of the layers and textures of fall clothing.

I pride myself on being a “smart impulse buyer” (I’m sure my dad isn’t too proud of this). I try to be as smart as one can possibly be when buying clothes at 6 o’clock in the morning from a sale that they have absolutely no idea what exactly will be featured in it. But hey, at least I try. Here’s how I strategize when I shop this sale:

I go into the sale knowing exactly what I need, and this year I needed a new pair of tan ankle boots. The ones I bought last year are really worn down from me wearing them so much, so it was time for a new pair. I also knew that I was looking for some sunglasses and a couple of sweaters that I can wear during the fall. So I go look at the boots section and sunglass section of the sale first, so I can get the most important (I use that term loosely in this context) items checked off first. I found a pair of ankle boots, but I did not find a pair of sunglasses that I felt were worth the price, or that I loved enough to buy anyway, so I kicked the sunglasses to the curb.

Then I look through (practically) every single page of the women’s part of the sale. And what I do (and I do this all the time when I’m bored and just online window shopping), is just take everything I see that I like, and add it to my cart. I don’t think about it, just add. We are trying to be efficient here, people. After I finish looking at everything, and feel satisfied that I have seen everything I am interested in, I go to my cart, and that is where I always narrow things down. What do I absolutely not need, and what are my least favorites? I don’t have tons o’cash that I can just throw around, so smart decisions have to be made. Any sweater that I want, I have to make sure that I can come up with at least three different ways I can wear it, and three different places I can wear it, in my head. I don’t want to buy something that I can only wear once, because than it’s not worth the price, even if it is marked down.

Finally, I narrow down my decision and make sure I have the budget for my final choices, and woohoo! I am all done! Am I cut off from spending for the next two months? Absolutely. But, am I happy? Yes, and that’s all that matters in the end, right? *attempts to muster a half-hearted smile as I calculate what groceries I won’t be getting this month*

I hope that my strategizing helps you when you shop this fantastic sale! I like to think of myself as a machine when I shop it, and my dream is that you will too (lol I crack myself up).
