Hello, friends! Today is a day of celebration…a day of rejoicing and happiness. No, it’s not my birthday, but it’s pretty close. It’s the first day of Early Access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I woke up at 5:30 am for this. I can’t wake up at 7 to go to the gym, but I can wake up even earlier to shop? Yeah, that’s an issue I might have to address at some point. Anyways, I am so so so excited because I got some good stuff this year. For me, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the opportunity to buy anything I need for the coming fall, such as a certain pair boots, jacket, coat, etc. It’s a great sale for buying necessities and basics because you get them at a discounted price, but you are still getting something that you will get a lot of use out of for the approaching colder seasons, giving you a little more bang for your buck. Plus, fall is my favorite season, especially when it comes to the clothes, so I am always really excited to shop this sale. Don’t get me wrong, I love the bright colors of spring and summer, but I love the styling that goes into all of the layers and textures of fall clothing.
I pride myself on being a “smart impulse buyer” (I’m sure my dad isn’t too proud of this). I try to be as smart as one can possibly be when buying clothes at 6 o’clock in the morning from a sale that they have absolutely no idea what exactly will be featured in it. But hey, at least I try. Here’s how I strategize when I shop this sale:
I go into the sale knowing exactly what I need, and this year I needed a new pair of tan ankle boots. The ones I bought last year are really worn down from me wearing them so much, so it was time for a new pair. I also knew that I was looking for some sunglasses and a couple of sweaters that I can wear during the fall. So I go look at the boots section and sunglass section of the sale first, so I can get the most important (I use that term loosely in this context) items checked off first. I found a pair of ankle boots, but I did not find a pair of sunglasses that I felt were worth the price, or that I loved enough to buy anyway, so I kicked the sunglasses to the curb.
Then I look through (practically) every single page of the women’s part of the sale. And what I do (and I do this all the time when I’m bored and just online window shopping), is just take everything I see that I like, and add it to my cart. I don’t think about it, just add. We are trying to be efficient here, people. After I finish looking at everything, and feel satisfied that I have seen everything I am interested in, I go to my cart, and that is where I always narrow things down. What do I absolutely not need, and what are my least favorites? I don’t have tons o’cash that I can just throw around, so smart decisions have to be made. Any sweater that I want, I have to make sure that I can come up with at least three different ways I can wear it, and three different places I can wear it, in my head. I don’t want to buy something that I can only wear once, because than it’s not worth the price, even if it is marked down.
Finally, I narrow down my decision and make sure I have the budget for my final choices, and woohoo! I am all done! Am I cut off from spending for the next two months? Absolutely. But, am I happy? Yes, and that’s all that matters in the end, right? *attempts to muster a half-hearted smile as I calculate what groceries I won’t be getting this month*
I hope that my strategizing helps you when you shop this fantastic sale! I like to think of myself as a machine when I shop it, and my dream is that you will too (lol I crack myself up).
